LOLER certificate: what the report of thorough examination must say
Updated
What people call a LOLER certificate is the written report of a thorough examination that regulation 10 of LOLER 1998 requires, and Schedule 1 of the regulations lists what it must contain, down to the latest date for the next examination.
What the report must contain
- The name and address of the employer, and the address of the premises where the examination was made.
- Particulars that identify the lifting equipment, with its date of manufacture where known.
- The date of the last thorough examination, and the safe working load.
- Whether this is a first examination after installation, a 6 month or 12 month examination, one under an examination scheme, or one after exceptional circumstances.
- Any part found with a defect that is or could become a danger, a description of the defect and the repair it needs.
- The latest date by which the next thorough examination must be carried out.
- Particulars of any test, where the examination included testing, and the date of the examination.
- The name, address and qualifications of the person making the report.
This is the list in Schedule 1 to the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998, set out here in plain words.
